RORO Shipping

A popular shipping option among transporters, RORO offers two major benefits – convenience and cost effectiveness. The vehicles are driven onto a vessel (using a specialized platform vehicle), secured below deck, and driven off once the vessel arrives at its destination. Since there’s no need for container packing, flat rack loading, port delivery, etc., no additional labour, equipment or charges are involved. For heavy automobiles and oversized cargo that doesn’t fit in standard containers, RORO is usually the only viable method of transportation. There’s also the added advantage of fixed and reliable departure and arrival dates. (The RORO vessel’s transport schedule runs similar to an airline flight schedule.)

At Viamar Scilla, our highly trained team is adept at employing the RORO method to transport all types and sizes of vehicles worldwide. We endeavour to fully understand our clients’ objectives and explain our shipping methods to them to ensure successful delivery and 100% customer satisfaction.

Full Container Loads

Full Container Load (FCL) is a popular marine shipment method, where the cargo occupies a full container of any size. Since FCL is usually under the account of one carrier and one consignee, customs may process your cargo faster than other delivery methods. Once your goods are processed, they’re unloaded and continue on to their destination. This is a particularly secure shipping method because there are fewer stops and fewer shipping agents handling the container.

Viamar uses 40-foot containers to ship up to four vehicles at a time, instead of the standard two. This saves the time and cost of shipping multiple vehicles to the same destination. Besides the regular packing, loading and transporting of vehicles, we take care of other matters related to international shipping, including documentation and customs clearances. When you choose FCL shipping, you can rest assured that all items inside the vehicle are noted on a single bill of lading which reduces the chances of loss during transit.

Consolidated/Shared Container

Consolidated shipping is an ideal option for transporting multiple small items that aren’t large enough to fill an entire container. Unlike FCL, which typically has a fixed rate per shipping container, consolidated container is charged based on the cargo’s volume in cubic meters. It’s an affordable international shipping option as you only need to pay for the space you use.

At Viamar Scilla, we’re responsive and transparent with information, working in close contact with our clients throughout the process. Our team of professionals will assist you with documentation and customs clearances, so you don’t need to worry much. We also provide a tracking code so you can keep tabs on your shipment until it safely reaches its destination.

Frequently Asked Questions

These are our most frequently asked questions about shipping vehicles to the Middle East.

Q1. Do you ship motorcycles to Jebel Ali Port?

Yes, we do.

We provide marine shipping services across the Middle East, including Jebel Ali Port.

Q2. Is there a fixed delivery date?

No. The delivery date cannot always be guaranteed.

While we can give an expected date of departure and arrival to different international ports, these cannot be guaranteed. Many factors like customs delays, natural calamities, political unrest, port congestion and rerouting can delay shipping and delivery.

Q3. Is consolidated shipping the right option for me?

This depends on the size and type of your goods.

Consolidated shipping is ideal for someone who has palletized freight. However, one of the key requirements of consolidated shipping is that it must move seamlessly across the dock.

Q4. Are the shipping containers airtight?

No, they are not.

Although the containers are usually insulated on all sides with rubber seals and adhesive, they are not airtight. Changes in temperature and humidity during the journey can affect the containers, hence damaging the goods within.
