What Is Full Container Load Shipping?

Also referred to as FCL, Full Container Load shipping is a freight service where a full container is shipped from one place to another. Shippers prefer this type of freight shipment for customers whose cargo can fill an entire container. It’s a cost-effective way to optimize your import and export operations by sea. There are various container sizes available, with the most common being 20- and 40-foot containers; they can hold around 1,000 and 2,000 cubic feet of cargo respectively. FCL is one of the most flexible auto-shipping methods, making it an ideal choice for commercial fleet deliveries.

Benefits Of Full Container Load Shipping (And When To Use It)

Full container load shipping (FCL) has several advantages in terms of logistics, particularly when dealing with fairly large shipments. If you’re looking for a quick way to ship your cargo without it being handled until it reaches its destination, FCL is your best choice. Additionally, if you’re shipping special vehicles, a full container is a great option that meets specialized requirements. With this type of shipping choice, you can rest assured knowing your freight will reach its destination safely and securely.

Cost Effective

When transferring your goods via full container load, you pay a flat fee to access the whole container space. The cost per cubic meter is cheaper than in the case of Less Than Container Load shipping.

Shipments transferred via FCL usually take less time. As it doesn’t carry the combined individual shipments or multiple orders in a single cargo, it takes much less time to load and unload.

Quick Transit

Consolidated containers make multiple stops along a single route. With FCL, your cargo is shipped directly to your destination without any delays. Therefore, if you have an urgent consignment to ship, FCL is the preferred method.

Unlike RORO, your cargo is shipped in an enclosed container to protect your goods from harmful weather. You don’t have to worry about your vehicles sustaining damage with FCL shipping.

If your vehicles don’t fill the container, you have the option of sending accessories along with the vehicles. This ensures you maximize your space and get full value for your investment.

Less Risk

Since FCL shipping has a single shipper, you needn’t worry about your cargo sharing intermodal containers. In this way the container only carries your cargo, meaning there’s no risk posed by other’s shippers’ cargo.
